Introduction
On 20th March, Unite Senior representatives attended consultation meetings with senior management at The Bank to discuss proposed changes to the organization's structure and staffing.
The Bank is still committed to becoming more sustainable and to that end aims to cut staff numbers by approximately 400 posts, employing various strategies such as redundancies, removal of vacant positions, reductions in temporary and contract staff, and attrition. It is very disappointing to see so many staff at risk considering the recent return to profitability, and we are also concerned about the broad scope and swift implementation of these proposals, potentially resulting in the loss of experience and corporate memory.
These reductions affect all areas, and the Bank intend to complete consultation with Unite by early May 2024.
Challenging the Proposals
During the consultation period, it is important for employees to question and challenge these proposals. If any concerns or questions arise after reading the communications from the business, we urge members to contact Unite for confidential advice.
Restructures occur for various reasons, and it is crucial that remaining staff remain vigilant about the impact of this reorganization on their future workload. Unbalanced workloads are detrimental to all parties involved, including the Bank, and addressing unforeseen issues going forward is in everyone's best interest.
Redundancy Terms
There are no changes to the agreed redundancy terms, which can be found on the intranet. You can access the details under "Working Here/Colleague Culture and Support/Organizational Change/Leaving The Bank/Severance Terms Agreement Payment Calculation Table."
